Farmingdale, NY ; Farmingdale State College has now officially launched a new Masters in Nursing Administration online program making Farmingdale one of three schools on Long Island with a master's in nursing administration program; the other two schools are Long Island University and Molloy. However, what makes Farmingdale different from these two is its accessibility. Farmingdale is well known for its nursing program which is very competitive to get into for a variety of reasons such as its reputation, affordability and its location for Long Island based students.

The goals of this new online program focus on  student leadership skills, administrative and management skills necessary for comprehensive care, and collaborative skills to work within a healthcare team. Their curriculum has courses related to older adults with the functional role of nurse administration. It includes a clinical rotation that best ensures students get hands-on experience in this field. This new program offers administrative-level jobs in places such as hospitals, home health agencies, long-term care facilities, and primary preventative care throughout the healthcare community.

Although this is a new program in the Farmingdale State College curriculum certain criteria needs to be met to get into the nursing program which helps add legitimacy to this new master's program. Farmingdale does not have the acceptance rate for its nursing program available to the public. However according to the Farmingdale state college website they require all applicants to have an A-B average and entry requirements which adds credibility to their program and allows for this new program to further give these excelling students more specialized skills in the healthcare system.

However, two other schools that also offer Master's in Nursing Administration are Long Island University and Molloy. However, their affordability compared to Farmingdale for students can be argued. On the Long Island University website, we can see the tuition fees for graduate students are $1,407 per credit  without any fees included. Molloy is within the same range which is about $1,510 per credit without any of its other fees. Compared to Farmingdale whose prices are approximately $515 per credit. Since there is no price per credit breakdown on their tuition list, Farmingdale is almost one third of the cost of tuition.

This new masters program allows Farmingdale students to continue their education in Farmingdale if they don’t wish to transfer to another institution.  The new program is offered online which allows students to have more flexibility within their schedule for those who work full time or may already be working in the healthcare system. This new addition also allows for students who are looking to stay in Long Island to gain more knowledge and pursue more opportunities closer to home. The addition of this new program gives students opportunities to expand their education at a state school price which attracts more students to Farmingdale. The office of Nursing wants to make sure students are able to develop leadership skills that translate to a professional setting in order to best support innovation, change and create a safe environment for all patients.
