FARMINGDALE, NY - Farmingdale State College has recently taken a step forward in preparing its students for the professional world with the opening of the Nexus Center for Applied Learning and Career Development. The program combines both applied learning methods with career development activities to create a complete system for student professional and academic advancement.
Through its central position, the Nexus Center connects students and graduates to various professional opportunities such as jobs, internships and career advancement programs. The center aims to bolster Farmingdale’s academic education by providing students a practical workplace experience.
CareerConnect stands as the Nexus Center's primary online feature which makes student and alumni job searching more efficient. Through this feature, users can find jobs and internships, book career counseling meetings, and get their resumes evaluated through this feature. The platform design gives students access to multiple career development tools.
Employers can benefit from the Nexus Center because it serves as an avenue to create job listings, manage applications and learn about upcoming on-campus recruitment events. The Nexus Center empowers both hiring organizations and job seekers to seek out and foster professional connections.
Farmingdale offers students practical education. All students at Farmingdale State College need to complete applied learning requirements before graduation to help develop practical skills for future careers. Through this method students use their academic expertise to participate in real-life settings before using collected experiences to enhance their coursework.
Rena Varghese, the Nexus Center's executive director, highlighted the importance of this initiative, stating, "Applied learning is key to our continuing goals of preparing students for the workforce and meeting the needs of employers." She emphasized that the center will offer a unified front for external partners to engage with the college and connect with students, satisfying mutually beneficial interests.
The Nexus Center is working on strengthening pre-existing connections between Farmingdale State College and its local and national business partners. Students and graduates from Farmingdale will be able to benefit from internship and employment programs organized by D3 LLC, Henry Scheind, National Grid and Tesla Motors just to name a few. Farmingdale State College President John S. Nader expressed his thoughts on the center, stating, "Farmingdale State College is a leader in applied learning and career development. Our Nexus Center will ensure that our students have multiple hands-on opportunities that will successfully prepare them with the skills and experience regional employers seek."
Within the SUNY system Farmingdale State College maintains its position as the biggest college dedicated to technology and applied science while preparing to lead workforce development throughout Long Island along with extended reaches. The Nexus Center gives students essential resources to build pathways toward success by equipping students with tools and networking opportunities for their career paths.
