NEW YORK – The Nexus Center for Applied Learning and Career Development at Farmingdale State College has a plethora of workshops and professional development events throughout spring 2026 semester, all catered to helping students develop the skills needed to create professional documents such as resumes and cover letters as well as prepare for both internships as well as employment after graduation. The center’s spring calendar features events that emphasize applied learning, applying to graduate school, navigating LinkedIn, resume building, job fair preparation, employer spotlight event with Amazon as well as a spring job fair that will host a wide range of companies. All events are designed to ensure students receive the right skills and tools to be able to take on a competitive job market.
The Nexus Center’s goal is to bridge Farmingdale students to real-world opportunities such as internships, jobs or graduate school. The resources provided by the center are not only free but aid in ensuring students have the capability to take on the real world and responsibilities of life after graduation. Events such as the job fair that occurs every semester are open to the public.
“What brought me to Dress for Success was the Farmingdale State College Nexus Center” said Farmingdale Nursing alum Joanne Deverson in a video on the center’s webpage. Deverson explained how the Nexus Center provided wonderful opportunities that allowed for networking, connectivity and resume help.
Workshops such as “Applied Learning Information Session” allows for Farmingdale students to learn all about applied learning requirements as well as opportunities. Nexus Center events draw in many students as well as garner traction online via their social media.
In addition, The Nexus Center often collaborates with companies to host employer spotlight events that are very beneficial to students. This semester alone, the center has already hosted an event with Northwestern Mutual. The center plans to host another employer spotlight event with Amazon. Employer spotlight events showcase to the student body the connections the center has with companies both locally and beyond.
Where the Nexus Center sets itself apart from other services on campus, is the center’s own job posting platform, CareerConnect. The platform serves as both a job posting platform as well as an online hub to book both in-office or virtual counseling appointments with Nexus Center Director, Cheryl Stratigos. CareerConnect lists part time local jobs for students, on campus/work-study positions, internships as well as full time jobs for students after graduation that are not just limited to Long Island or New York State.
As the spring 2026 semester continues, The Nexus Center plans to host even more events that are dedicated to opening a world of opportunities for Farmingdale students. These events are not to be missed. Students can visit both the Nexus Center webpage as well as their Instagram account (fsc.nexuscenter) to remain updated on events that are to come.
