FARMINGDALE, N.Y – On Thursday, April 10th, 2025, students and faculty gathered on Farmingdale State College’s campus for the Plaza Celebration. This was a lively event filled with food trucks, music, and community spirit. The event celebrated the Inauguration of Robert S. Prezant, Greek Week, and the new plaza on campus. I interviewed students who visited the food trucks at the celebration and received all positive feedback.

As Greek Week and Inauguration week overlapped, new president Robert S. Prezant made an appearance to judge the cornhole tournament hosted by Greek Life at the new plaza on campus between Ward and Gleeson Hall. The Plaza Celebration aimed to bring students together with a sense of community and free food.

There were two food trucks available. One was the Buzz’d Coffee truck, and the other was the Dilly Dilly food truck. Buzz’d Coffee offered a variety of coffee and non-coffee drinks in a 16-oz cup, and students were allowed to add any flavor the truck had. At Dilly Dilly, students were allowed to choose from cinnamon sugar or powdered donuts.

The Office of Student Activities worked hard to put this event together, and the food trucks seemed to be a big hit at the event. Both of these trucks were free for students, thanks to the $100 Student Activity Fee. Each full-time student pays a fee per semester, which helps the Office of Student Activities have events to bring students together on campus.

Students Romie and Marissa rated their cinnamon sugar munchkins from Dilly Dilly a 9 and 8 out of 10, and added that “it’s really fun” at the event, and it is a good way to get students together on campus.

More students, Leah and Marcus, added that events like this “bring everyone together, especially since the food is free”, and that events like this create a sense of “community” among the students. They also enjoyed their donuts, rating them 7.5 and 8/10.

FSC student Jordan ventured off from his normal Buzz’d Coffee order and got an iced cookies and cream cold brew with oat milk instead. He rated his cold brew a 7.6/10. Jordan mentioned that he “usually gets the chai from [Buzz’d Coffee] that's really good”. Another student at the event enthusiastically rated his French vanilla iced latte from Buzz’d Coffee a 10/10.

All students I talked to at the Plaza Celebration enjoyed their items from the food truck, giving ratings ranging from 7.5/10 to 10/10. Each student also said that events like the Plaza Celebration are a great way to bring students together and form a community on campus.

As students rated their food and shared laughs with fellow students, it was clear the event delivered more than just good eats, but it served as a reminder of the strong sense of community between students at Farmingdale State College.
