Get to learn about the Rams’ motorsports club

Farmingdale, N.Y. - It was a great conversation to have with Max, who revived the motorsports club in 2022 after it had collapsed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The club has been around for decades, and after that huge hit, they are now thriving with over twenty active members in the club. Anyone is welcome to join the club, and it is super easy to do so.  All you have to do is go to their meeting hours at Lupton Hall in room 119 and be ready to be put to work right away. No matter how much knowledge you have of motorsports, everyone is treated equally, and Max and his crew just ask for those joining to be willing to learn.

Now let’s get into the fun stuff.

 Ram Motorsports is a club where they design and builds go karts and has them compete in events, and their goal is to get as many sponsors as possible. Every kart is built from scratch, and they even bend and weld every pipe themselves. They must follow a two-hundred-page rule book to make sure that their kart is legal for competitions, but they also have a second one that they work on for fun when they don’t have a competition coming right up.

 They compete in a series hosted by SAE Baja, and they have three competitions every year. This Spring the Rams are going to Rochester to compete, and in the fall, they are going to Ohio. In the past, they have been to Maryland, Michigan, and South Carolina. These competitions include going up against over one hundred other teams, and some of them aren’t even from America. They play against schools and teams from Canada, Mexico, Brazil, India, South Korea, and Dubai.

Things happen with the karts before competitions, and sometimes the day of. These guys get put into pressure situations where they need to answer fast and on the fly. These attributes help them learn how to deal with conflict, and they bring these skills to the real world.

The members of the club use the skills they gained and sometimes make a career out of it. SAE is highly sought after by employers, and they have a sponsor event where you can ask companies about internships and learn more about them. Max actually got an internship in the aerospace industry, and it was all due to his time in Ram Motorsports.
