Farmingdale, N.Y.

As college basketball is starting to enter the championship faze, the Farmingdale State College (FSC) Women’s basketball team will be having their first quarter final game, It will be on Feb 25, 2026.  The team will have their first-round game against the ST. Joseph’s Long Island (SJU) Golden Eagles. This marks their third game against this team this year. This game will be a home game, taking place in the campus’s athletic center- George E. Nold Hall.

To commemorate the start of the championship season, let’s look back at the FSC RAMs women basketball team and their previous games against the SJLI Golden Eagles.  The start of this ongoing battle between school starts all the way back in the year 2000 with the first match against the SJLI Golden Eagles. In their very first match, the FSC RAMs took victory with a score of 77-69 in a very close game. Since then, the FSC RAMs and SJLI Eagles women’s teams would have over 52 more games, with more upcoming.

From 2002-2013, the FSC RAMs would have their longest winning streak against SJU. During this time the FSC RAMs would have a whopping twenty-four game winning streak against the enemy college. Some of the highest points the team would ever earn would be during this win streak with scores in the 80s and 90s. These victories would pre-date the interior renovation to Farmingdale State College’s athletic center.

Unfortunately, the start of the 2020’s has shown a decline in victories for our women’s basketball team. Due to covid-19, a pause on all in-person activity stopped our team from competing until 2022. While the reasons are unknown, the team started their first game post covid with a loss and a score of 75-88. From February 17th, 2022, to February 14th, 2026, our team has only had two wins.

Let’s look at the most recent game between the FSC RAMs and the SJLI Golden Eagles. This game took place on February 14th, 2026, and was a home game played at the FSC athletic center. This was an NCAA Division III skyline conference game. This was a special game for the RAMs as it was their senior night. In the first quarter, the Golden Eagles took a ten-point lead over the RAMs leading 15-5. In the second quarter, the RAMs stepped up a bit and scored 12 points but unfortunately fell short of the Golden Eagles who scored 14. The third quarter heightened the lead between the Golden Eagles and the RAMs with the Golden Eagles scoring 18 points compared to the RAMs 6. The final quarter showed a turnaround for our RAMs, scoring 18 points while the Golden Eagles scored only 10. Unfortunately, the turnaround in the last quarter was not enough and our team lost 57-41.

This isn’t to say that there won’t possibly be a victory on our hands for the upcoming game. Our team is made up of very strong and solid players such as our Junior Guard Mia Simmons who scored 11 points.  Our sophomores Emily Tsiforas (Guard) and Brianna Amenta both scored 8 points. The FSC women’s basketball team can learn from past games and improve for the next upcoming game against SJLI. Let’s show our support for our FSC RAMS!
