WESTBURY, NY Jose Monsurez is the owner and founder of Dulcemania, Mexico, inc, a growing franchise that sells Mexican candy, delicious treats and embraces Mexican culture located right here on Long Island, N.Y. Monsurez just recently opened his fourth location in Farmingville, N.Y., along with having three other locations across Long island. Dulcemania's first location is located in Westbury, Ny and has been open since 2015. Monsurez was inspired to open up his first location in Westbury after working in the restaurant business for years and being tired working for someone else. He wanted to strive to do something on his own and have something to call his own. He says “ the first thing I would think to do is, open a candy store”.

Monsurez picked Westbury as his first location since it's the the place he calls home and has grown up in the area, knows the people and the community well. He feels like he has contributed to the spread of Mexican culture with the expansions of his stores across Long Island and has given the Hispanic community a place to go to for Mexican treats and more. Monsurez mentions that customers from Mexican and South American heritage come to enjoy the items on the menu. The most popular item on the menu being the mangonada. Which is a frozen Mexican dessert that is made of mango sorbet, chopped fresh mangos, lime juice, chamoy and topped with tajin. The sweet and salty treat is essentially meant to be eaten during the hot summer months.

What's your favorite item on the menu and something that you would recommend?

My favorite item on the menu is churros with ice cream. It's a Mexican Spanish churros served with ice cream. It could be vanilla ice cream, chocolate ice cream  or strawberry ice cream.”

What advice would you  give to someone starting a business?

“ I would say take time to look at the area, what's going to start the business and what it's like (look at the people in the community. Who will be your demographic),and be patient.”

What makes you different from other businesses on post ave?

“ The difference on Post ave is nobody has what I make and it's something that I created.”

Monsurez has a really strong following from children who look for sweet or savory treats after school to people who have been supporting him for the past 10 years. Monsurez says he invites everyone to come in and visit, to try his products and see for themselves his creation from the last 10 years and to share their opinions. Monsurez 'two other locations are located in Hempstead,N.Y and Amityville,N.Y.
