Farmingdale, New York- With an extensive and extensive resume, here at Farmingdale State College, we are honored to have Christoper Malone as our Associate Provost. For those of you who are looking to learn more about the people who make this college run as great as it does, welcome to our “Administrative Staff Spotlight” segment column.
Christoper Malone has over 30 years of experience in higher education and public service. He started his career in teaching in the Department of Political Science at Hunter College in 1996, as a Doctoral Teaching Fellow. Since then, he has been part of some incredible projects and played his part in improving higher education as a whole. He continued his career afterwards at Pace University for about 15 years in the Political Science Department. In those 15 years, he played a significant role in academic and administrative roles at Pace University.
Some of the things he has accomplished in those years have been, Founding Director of the American Studies Program, Director of the Pforzheimer Honors College, Founding Director of the Pace Summer Scholars Institute, Chair of the Dyson Faculty Assembly, and Chair of the Department of Political Science. From 2004-2010, Malone also co-taught a popular distance learning Public Policy and American Politics course on CSPAN, with CSPAN's long-time serving Vice President, Steve Scully, which reached 70 million households. After Pace University, Malone achieved and served as Associate Dean of the School of Natural and Social Sciences at Lehman College, CUNY in the years 2015-2018. He also served as Founding Dean of the newly created School of Arts and Sciences at Molloy University from 2018-2021 afterwards.
Along with his impressive education experience, he also has impressive political and government experience. In 2000, he started his first political campaign, a New York City council race in Brooklyn. Because of his political expertise, he has been an immediate “go-to” for other political candidates. He has also had the honor of serving as New York Senate as Policy Director for State Senator Gustavo Rivera, Chair of the Senate Health Committee at start of 2011 and finished his role in year 2015. He has helped change many issues like health, education, and criminal justice policies in the state of New York. He has made an impression and is still involved by being part of the Campaign Finance Board's Voter Assistance Advisory Committee (VAAC).
He has written, edited, and published over a dozen writings. He recently took part taking a big responsibility in writing a $3 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education under the Developing Hispanic-Serving Institutions (DHSI) Program. He took to social media, “It was an awesome responsibility to take the lead on writing this grant, and it will be an even greater one to lead it over the next 5 years. I am deeply grateful to Farmingdale State College to be given this opportunity to expand and deepen the commitment and connection we have to our students through the creation of an Office of First Year and Transfer Year Experience. Ready and up for the challenge.” We are privileged to have Christopher Malone here at our very own college. If you would like to learn more about his career experiences, want advice, or just want to learn more about him, you can find him in Horton Hall, Room 230.
