FARMINGDALE, N.Y. - Farmingdale State College students have shared their thoughts and opinions on the campus athletic facilities. Highlighting recent improvements, however, pointing out where they would like to see more changes as well.

Throughout recent interviews filmed at Nold Hall, a few students discussed their opinions and experiences on using the school's gym and other athletic facilities. Their feedback included appreciation for the recent upgrades while still suggesting additional improvements

Patrick, a student on the Farmingdale baseball team, showed his appreciation for the new split gym layout. “They are not as packed, and we can do a team lift now,” Patrick stated. This upgrade helps keep a more organized training environment and allows the teams to all work out together.

Obara and Kai expressed their opinions on the need for extended gym hours. Obara states, “It's kind of overpopulated in terms of clubs being able to reserve the gym, it makes the casual experience for other students who want to play basketball- it makes it very difficult”. Kai states that “the gym should be open on Sundays”, wanting longer hours to enjoy the facility. Opening the facilities earlier in the morning and staying open till late at night will help the students with those busier schedules.

Lucas explained his desire for more fitness equipment to help with the growing crowds in the fitness center. When asked if any new machines should be added Lucas stated, “Yes, I would say some more cables would be nice”. Lucas explained that he has noticed more students using the cables and would benefit if there were more to use.

All students, however, pointed out one common theme. These facilities, no matter which one they use the most, create a sense of community. Many students use these areas as a way to let go or clear their heads for a while. Being a college student can be challenging with many responsibilities. These facilities could make a big impact on students by giving them the space to enjoy in their free time.

Despite the positive feedback about the upgrades and the sense of community, these students would also like to see continued progress. By expanding operating hours and adding more equipment to the fitness center, these students feel that these changes would benefit their experience and other students while still maintaining a healthy campus lifestyle.

No formal plans have been stated by Farmingdale State College for further improvements however, student input is a valuable source of information for the athletic administrators.

As Farmingdale State College continues to grow, students share their voices to hopefully one day improve these facilities or even just create conversations about these changes.  Whether it is longer hours, new machines, or more space, keeping a sense of community is their top priority.
