FARMINGDALE, N.Y.- A new donut shop has opened in Farmingdale located at 314 Main Street. The name of the store is Vice Donuts and this is their only location on the island. Vice Donuts originally had a location in Massapequa but have since closed and have opened up in Farmingdale. Vice Donuts started as a mobile donut truck during the COVID pandemic. When Vice Donuts started out, it was co-owned by two neighboring families but that has since changed and only one of the families has continued on with the donut shop, making Gina and Joe O'Brien the sole owners.
Vice Donuts is proud to say that the donuts are dairy and egg free making them vegan donuts and every donut is made within the past 12 hours of being sold. Vice Donuts updates their menu weekly and sometimes bi-weekly keeping up to date with trends, seasons and flavors.
When visiting Vice Donuts I interviewed employee Sam and got the scoop on how often new items are added to the menu.
“Bi weekly, it's always at least two or three drinks, at least one donut, and it varies.” she said “Last week it was lemon poppy!”
Vice Donuts also offers themed donuts if you're looking to cater a party or a specific holiday. They offer themed decorations and flavors for all holidays and even important days like the Super Bowl.
When asked about this employee Sam said, “We do, everything is totally themed out, like even the strawberry vanilla frosted donuts, which are like classics, they always get like themed sprinkles. We always do one or two flavored donuts. We did Valentine's Day boxes. We did St Patrick's Day boxes, Super Bowl boxes with team colors, like we try to cater to everyone at every time.”
Vice Donuts has come a long way from its first appearance in 2020 and has since changed over time. When Vice Donuts was a food truck the owners had the mobility to drive wherever they like in hopes of acquiring more customers. The Massapequa location was closer to what they were striving for but at that time Vice Donuts was operated through a window and had no inside seating area. Now with the move to Farmingdale, Vice Donuts has progressed into a storefront location with a full cafe and seating area.
When asked to compare the past Vice Donuts location to the new location employee Sam said, “I heard that this one it's busier. Like, the weekends here are a lot busier. I think the space itself is physically bigger, but, as far as I know, like as the months go by, we just continue to kind of go on an incline with that.”
Having a cafe has always been the dream of Vice Donuts owners Gina and Joe O'Brien. Now that they have succeeded with their dream they intend to help their community. Vice Donuts plans to continue catering to the needs of their fellow Farmingdale residents and plans to start holding events at their new location to try to bring the community together with the help of donuts.
