SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY. -  The Suffolk County division two football playoffs have kicked off North Babylon and Huntington gave fans a great game to jumpstart the playoffs. The game was packed with fans from both sides filling the stands and adding to the atmosphere.

North Babylon visited Huntington as the 6th seed coming into the game. While Huntington hosted the game as the 3rd seed to a packed-out home crowd. The game started out fast for the Huntington Blue Devils as their passing game was immediately effective moving the ball down field on the Bulldogs at an efficient rate.

Offensively, the Bulldogs couldn’t get much done as they had trouble moving the ball and had some near drops on passes that could’ve gone for long gains. It was clear from the beginning that one team was ready to play football and one team was not.

It was a surprise that there was such a dominant performance from the Blue Devils throughout the game given that the two teams met earlier in the season with Huntington coming out on top 40-34 in a nail bitter.  Not much separated these two teams in the standings.

The playoffs is a brand-new season, and the Bulldogs were finding that out the hard way. For a team that has not had any trouble putting points on the board, North Babylon looked like a completely different team in that regard.  Huntington on the other hand kept their scoring touch from the regular season and did not take their foot off the gas.

By halftime the Blue Devils lead by a score of 21-7.  North Babylon alumni Joe Mott and Frankie Nieves gave insight into what was going wrong for the Bulldogs.  “The play calling on offense needs to get better, Huntington’s defense is sniffing everything out, pass defense has to tighten it up” Mott said.

Nieves added a similar point stating “I think they need to wake up. It feels like they’re sleeping. They need to find their motivation and get things together as a team. Play like 110% because this could be their last game, especially for seniors.”

The crowd was a huge factor and showcased how hard it can be to play in the County. The student section was active for the Blue Devils with nonstop chance that may have had an effect on North Babylon.

In a game that demanded a lot from both teams it was a challenge for the Bulldogs to mount a comeback. They got the ball to start the second half and despite initially, gaining a first down, they were eventually stopped and turned the ball over.

Unfortunately, North Babylon could never find their game and fell by a final score of 41-14. This brings the Bulldogs season to an end and allows for Huntington to move on to the second round of the Suffolk County division two playoffs.
