FARMINGDALE, N.Y. - On Thursday, April 9th, 2026, the School of Business department held their first job fair at Farmingdale State College. This job fair was the start of endless opportunities for students to meet with potential employers to kickstart their careers. It took place in the Campus Center ballroom.

As graduation nears, students are trying to look for employment options they can pursue postgrad. At the end of 2025 around 5.7% of recent college graduates were unemployed, as reported in CNBC.

The School of Business provides an assortment of undergraduate programs that help students successfully transition into the business world, as stated on Farmingdale’s School of Business website. This allows students to gain knowledge of their field by completing hands-on experience. Students can meet with members of the School of Business faculty to help steer them in the right direction.

Creating the job fair took a lot of planning and preparation by the School of Business Student Advisory Board. The board has 21 students and one staff member. There was a total of 40 employers at the fair and 212 students attending.

Heather Mendes is a member of the student advisory board that helped plan the event. “My goal for this event is to let students' network, get to know the different opportunities that we have locally, help them to expand their network, and learn different skills and communication that they can take postgrad,” said Heather. Students can take what they learn from this experience into the start of their professional careers.

Students who attended the job fair were equipped with tools that they could further implement for future success in their field. “It sets students up for future success because it preps them for real-world conversations, learn how to do headshots, professionally dress, fix their resumes, make these connections, and be able to hold a conversation to pitch themselves to employers,” said Heather. These tools will help set students apart from the average student based on their level of experience.

Alexia Astudillo is another member of the student advisory board. With the current job market, students can feel overwhelmed about their future employment options. “I think the job fair can prepare students for the current job market, by having students connect with employers, network as much as possible for students to learn what’s out there, and absorb as much as they can,” said Alexia.

The School of Business aims to help their students find employment in the field. It provides them with the proper courses needed to help them thrive in the business world. Students can go into employment such as marketing, customer relations, global business, entrepreneurship, financial services, and much more, as stated on Farmingdale’s Business Management website.
