FARMINGDALE, N.Y, - With the energy of spring sports season in full swing, Farmingdale State College is buzzing with team spirit—and who better to spotlight than the Men’s Lacrosse team? I took a walk through the Nold Athletic Complex to catch up with some of our Rams and play a round of “This or That,” getting their takes on everything from game-day preferences to recovery routines.
The team proudly boasts their impressive 13-2 overall record, and are riding their current 13 game winning streak since February 26th! Though starting off their season with two tough back to back losses on their Florida trip February 21st and 23rd, they only used those early setbacks as motivation to fuel their fire and have not let up since.
Inside Nold Athletic Complex, I first met with Cole Longo, who confidently chooses “home games” over away games, and stays hydrated with “water” instead of sports drinks. Next up is Mike Cassano, who keeps the intensity up with his preference for “weights” over “cardio.” Like Cole, he’s all about the home-field advantage but instead opts for “Sports drinks” to stay fueled.
I then met with Connor Murtha, who opts for an “ice bath” over a massage gun for post-game recovery. He’s also a fan of home games and prefers “early morning workouts,” proving he’s all about getting the job done before the day even begins!
To mix things up, I caught up with brothers Andrew and Adam Giovinco. Andrew, a senior and younger brother Adam, sophomore, are both making major contributions on the field—each ranking in the top three for goals this season, with Andrew netting 38 and Adam close behind with 30 goals. When asked about “Rival or championship games,” the split was clear—Andrew’s focused on the glory of a title win, while Adam thrives in the heat of rivalry.
Their pre-game vibe was even more unique- neither hype music nor silent focus was their preferred choice. Andrew instead prefers to get in the zone with “calm music,” while Adam swears by “country music” to get pumped up! As for game location, Andrew loves the comfort of a home crowd, while Adam loves the thrill of taking over an opponent’s turf.
If their current run is any indication, this team could be headed for something special this postseason. With playoffs on the horizon, the Rams have their sights set on a championship finish!
