Suffolk County Police are investigating a shocking murder-suicide that took the lives of two men in Lindenhurst on Monday, February 3rd leaving the community in shock.

Police received a 911 call around 4 p.m. reporting a possible death at 369 Nevada Street. When officers arrived, they found 66-year-old Marek Gusciora, on the ground of his front yard with a gunshot wound to his chest. Emergency responders pronounced Gusciora dead at the scene.

Approximately an hour later, at 5:10 pm, detectives located 69-year-old Augustyn Jedra, who appeared to be homeless, dead inside a vehicle in the parking lot of 455 Park Avenue in the back of a local plaza. Police said he seemed to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, suggesting that he was responsible for Gusciora's death before taking his own life.

The connection between the two men remains under investigation, and authorities have not disclosed a possible motive. Police have urged anyone with information regarding the case to contact the Homicide Squad at 631-852-6392.

Residents of Lindenhurst expressed their grief and disbelief over the incident. "It’s incredibly unsettling," said one neighbor. "You never expect something like this to happen so close to home. It’s just tragic."

Local officials and advocacy groups emphasized the importance of mental health support and domestic violence awareness in the wake of the incident. "Situations like these highlight the urgent need for community resources to help those struggling with personal crises," said a representative from a Suffolk County mental health organization.

Authorities remind the public that help is available for those experiencing emotional distress or conflict. The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (988) and the National Domestic Violence Hotline (1-800-799-7233) offer confidential support and resources.

As the investigation continues, Suffolk County Police are working to piece together the events leading up to the murder-suicide. Further updates will be provided as more details emerge.

This remains a developing story.
